In fact I've felt like I've been on a bit of a roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs of these exciting events. First up, I finished quilting and binding this little Simply Charming Quilt. Relieve the stiffness that can occur while you enjoy quilting. These stretches are easy, work well, and can be done without leaving your sewing machine.</div>

Before our lives were interrupted by the corona virus I would baste my quilts at the senior center with my Tuesday girls. Now that that is not an option, I've had to alter things a little bit. Let me share. To baste your quilt you will need the parts of your quilt sandwich; top, back, and batting. A large table, I have a banquet size table. If using your dinning table you might want to put something down to protect the finish. You will also need clips or clamps and lots of safety pins. Make sure your clips are large enough to take in the thickness of your table. At the center I use large binder clips. My table at home needed something bigger.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZkyyZOR7LrMQrSZNNAFdipKyfwjd-lF-405Igsy4Lgapz17O3mszPpDm_uouTj2S0KkkR_D9NKSUi-8thwzMmz_M1OwX05eb1-VMB3jiUWWZQHRTCg-uN8_gjKibbNIm6vMlMiNuTVs8/s1600/20200428_151557%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZkyyZOR7LrMQrSZNNAFdipKyfwjd-lF-405Igsy4Lgapz17O3mszPpDm_uouTj2S0KkkR_D9NKSUi-8thwzMmz_M1OwX05eb1-VMB3jiUWWZQHRTCg-uN8_gjKibbNIm6vMlMiNuTVs8/s320/20200428_151557%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Spread your backing onto your table with the right side next to the table. Smooth it out. Then use the clips to hold it in place. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next spread the batting on top of your backing and smooth it out. Carefully remove a clip at a time and clip the batting and backing to the table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally spread out your top over the batting and backing. Repeat the smoothing and clipping process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now pin all over. I like to pin about 4"-5" apart. You want thing to stay in place but you don't want to have to be removing pins constantly while you are quilting either.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a short little video of my process. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwjQ-wijiKmrUrZN2d2A7AirkLT275tJbXvPBDSj0SLV1uqdnll6vMBtfRlEUOBHp1u1jj_NWdk8c1P4-A0Ew' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
Don't worry if it is bigger than your table. Once you do one half you can carefully pull the rest of your quilt across the table and repeat the process. At the center I push two tables together to eliminate this problem. em's scrapbaghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02111534162397777000noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3264933645170736932.post-13050053133440922252020-04-27T07:38:00.003-06:002020-04-27T07:38:27.296-06:00Fun with Half Square Triangles<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

In fact you've received two options for block four. The corona virus has my brain a little mixed up. At least that is what I'm blaming it on. I also took a friend their birthday present a week early, at least it wasn't late. Because I had my days/weeks mixed up.<br />

Nothing relaxes me more than making improvisational blocks from my scrap bins. There is just something about mindlessly pulling scraps from my bins and sewing them together than eases my mind. I get in the zone and hours can pass. Before I know it I have a bunch of happy blocks.</div>

That is what happened with my Scrap Bin Challenge. Pull, sew, trim, pull sew trim. Before I knew it this man quilt was done. It finishes at 60" x 72". I'm planning on giving it to my daughter's friend's father. Her was recently diagnosed with cancer. So a quilt is in order. <br />

I love all the pretty pictures I can take with my quilts in spring. My sister, <a href="https://www.ravenbergphotography.com/" target="_blank">Becky</a>, has a few ideas of places we can take more pictures; one with lilacs, the other mountain wild flowers. Don't they both sound divine? I have a little time before these flowers will bloom. So I my goal is to get a few more quilts made. Yesterday I pulled these fabrics. Most of them are from the new line Bungalow, by Amy Gibson for Windham fabrics. You can find this and other great fabric at the <a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Ca%20href=%22https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=929603&u=1453464&m=68500&urllink=&afftrack=%22%3EFat%20Quarter%20Shop%3C/a%3E" target="_blank">Fat Quarter Shop.</a> I bought a fat quarter bundle of it when I was at market last fall. I had to supplement a few fat quarters because I had used some of them in other projects.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSaMv9nuJCJKOucr0AK40e8XftVMhKe1judMX5pWpFJgkpbKLkMquAz9_bMwCmLD7lgsNUE3jAk0Ssaf7w2EQMp91o5J5i2UGpQ2-JRfS0dVsB-yv4zVny0fTbt2h4sbG232I0y04INx4/s1600/20200421_181930.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSaMv9nuJCJKOucr0AK40e8XftVMhKe1judMX5pWpFJgkpbKLkMquAz9_bMwCmLD7lgsNUE3jAk0Ssaf7w2EQMp91o5J5i2UGpQ2-JRfS0dVsB-yv4zVny0fTbt2h4sbG232I0y04INx4/s320/20200421_181930.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My plan for these pretties is my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/528185895/posy-parade-patchwork-flower-fat-quarter?ref=shop_home_feat_4" target="_blank">Posy Parade</a>, baby girl quilt pattern. My original one has been given away. So a new one is in order. Plus it's always good to have a few spare baby quilts already made. I like to be prepared when those precious bundles arrive. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This quilt is one that uses a partial seam. Want to learn how? Here's a video to help you out. They look harder than they are. Once you learn how you will open a world of new blocks to make. </div>

I've been blessed with a wonderful mother who taught me to create. It is very important to her. She taught me to sew, cook, garden. She even tried to teach me to paint. That was not so successful. Every year she helped us to create something to enter in the fair. It was so rewarding when we won ribbons. My first sewing machine came from my mom winning at the state fair. I don't enter things in the fair anymore. But I do love to create. </div>

This little quilt in progress was inspired by my mother's desire to help her children develop their talents and the talk, <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2008/10/happiness-your-heritage?lang=eng" target="_blank">Happiness, Your Heritage, by Dieter F. Uctdorf</a>. If you've been on the blog recently you know that. I've added background and people to my quilt. I'm hoping to quilt words of things people create to finish it off. I'm thinking; art, hope, love, friendship, quilts, cake, homes, bridges, buildings, engines, art, music etc. If you have more ideas I'd love it if you shared them in the comments. Thanks!<br />

As I've said before I love to draw on traditional quilt and find ways I can make them new. I find the Dresden Plate to be one of those traditional blocks that lends itself to this practice. </div>

This sweet little pillow is made from a Dresden my great grandmother made. It is such a treasure to me. I remember my grandma telling me how they would order bags of scraps and sometimes there would be a large enough piece to make a dress for my grandma. I'm sure these blades were made from the smaller pieces in those bags.</div>

Every year I am so thankful to <a href="https://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sarah</a> and all her readers. Through her Hand 2 Help program I am able donate hundreds of quilts to valiant cancer patients. </div>

I've got the words for another quote form Dieter F. Uchtdor's talk, <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2008/10/happiness-your-heritage?lang=eng" target="_blank">Happiness, Your Heritage.</a> Since I can't decide on a quote. I've decided to do a series of quilts. I now have words done for two of them. Ideas are churning on how to finish each. I'm soooo excited!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I hope to have a least one done for my birthday and the end of The Proverbial Quilt Along.<br />

In addition to making words I've also had a little fun making wonky log cabin blocks for the Scrap Bin Pull Challenge. You can see my scrap pull<a href="https://emsscrapbag.blogspot.com/2020/04/scrap-bin-challenge.html" target="_blank"> here</a>.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So far I have a dozen blocks. Six more underway and a bin that is still mostly full of scraps. Will this quilt use up all those scraps? Or will they multiply faster than I can sew. Stay turned. </div>

</div>
Prairie points are a fun addition to your quilt. They add interest and dimension. Considering how easy they are to make, they're pretty big bang for your buck.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKvBAFvd2oiOTj9lE5EAa230jfosGWiL3AHdvOzswKjI34SyKKEsQ2ZvbH40zgyG2_dHRrBMfZ6qUACBndipoRkGiR5VWurnxh0EjoPFDSKXWGCz7wL3vEGVduO4Azp-1ysPFT1vN5FSs/s1600/20200409_133424-001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="450" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKvBAFvd2oiOTj9lE5EAa230jfosGWiL3AHdvOzswKjI34SyKKEsQ2ZvbH40zgyG2_dHRrBMfZ6qUACBndipoRkGiR5VWurnxh0EjoPFDSKXWGCz7wL3vEGVduO4Azp-1ysPFT1vN5FSs/s320/20200409_133424-001.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
While my examples show them on the edge of a quilt. You can add them to borders and blocks. I've used them as wings on a chicken block. Sadly at the moment I can't find a picture of it. <br />

Yesterday I got very early. I wanted to be at the state capital just as the sun rose. The trees are in bloom and I thought it would be fun to take pictures with all those bloosoms. <br />

While social distancing my sister, <a href="https://www.ravenbergphotography.com/" target="_blank">Becky</a>, gave me a hand. She is such a great photographer. And knows some pretty great places to take pictures.<br />

In 2008 Dieter F. Uchtdorf gave the talk, <a href="https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2008/10/happiness-your-heritage?lang=eng" target="_blank">Happiness, Your Heritage</a>. It instantly became one of my all time favorites. So when <a href="http://dsquilts.com/" target="_blank">Denyse Schmitt</a> announced her Proverbial quilt along, this talk came to me. I've been wanting to do something with the wise words found there and this was the motivation I needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7AmeWOyL-m5y1rwu2-xGMvhT9iGKrI7NXRi3vwWi5es8T7CC4RrXMGkdn2J8pF8zoxsgm8VKDawI-EAPF8cBAGDT_TBsIXfQDU_ls3xprKRQsJUQrDqxXJErEC1EhU0UCYi-iuLjJIQ0/s1600/20200404_162707%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7AmeWOyL-m5y1rwu2-xGMvhT9iGKrI7NXRi3vwWi5es8T7CC4RrXMGkdn2J8pF8zoxsgm8VKDawI-EAPF8cBAGDT_TBsIXfQDU_ls3xprKRQsJUQrDqxXJErEC1EhU0UCYi-iuLjJIQ0/s320/20200404_162707%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is my first quote. Can I just say, this is either going to be a very big quilt. Or I may need to make a series. For now I'm just making letters and words.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Do you journal? Do you know people who do? Then my newest <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-JBH1AV01kwQCdqsug3Iow/" target="_blank">YouTube video</a> is for you. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQzXw_RO4pYve9c9BVPg1LIQ4C-Ilcl8eeP7jbZ_UzXivUGNZnHY8A90WfasCqoBNRqYqXO94ts4vNdBOI7_wnHjHcMNy48elclggG4w8qadhejQHOpjN9leGjLBg0Fk-oarynFV8i18E/s1600/20200402_121246.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="450" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQzXw_RO4pYve9c9BVPg1LIQ4C-Ilcl8eeP7jbZ_UzXivUGNZnHY8A90WfasCqoBNRqYqXO94ts4vNdBOI7_wnHjHcMNy48elclggG4w8qadhejQHOpjN9leGjLBg0Fk-oarynFV8i18E/s400/20200402_121246.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
These journal covers are fast and easy. The simple fabric cover just needs two fat quarters and your ready to go. You can also choose to piece and/or quilt your cover. I personally like to piece mine. It's a fun way to bust through some scraps and make a nice gift. Here are just a few of the ones I've given away over the years.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL1E9mzOZkp6sVCBGaN3nQXM8dNBQaEkGDVKZ4wlj28m4eIScwIEXU_GTjk9m9tMS5kQzT555Xc-4MzOBnJX8_sIRpZSdbdhoPZ6m-B6M4xznpfxwQvSGL1Gmr58XZWaHZjL0gyHdO2Qk/s1600/bookcovers.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="400" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL1E9mzOZkp6sVCBGaN3nQXM8dNBQaEkGDVKZ4wlj28m4eIScwIEXU_GTjk9m9tMS5kQzT555Xc-4MzOBnJX8_sIRpZSdbdhoPZ6m-B6M4xznpfxwQvSGL1Gmr58XZWaHZjL0gyHdO2Qk/s320/bookcovers.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like to use a composition book. The graph paper ones are great to give to your quilting friends. They make a fun doodle and sketch book. Hope you have fun with these. Remember to share them with me on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/2530043610411351" target="_blank">Facebook</a> or @emsscrapbag on Instagram. I love to see what you create! Now here's the video.</div>

Happy April Fools Day!!! This challenge is no joke. I know there are lots of new challenges popping up all over. Many of us need a new project like we need a hole our heads. But I'm of the philosophy that you can never have enough projects. You wouldn't want to get bored while sheltering in place. So in addition to my current projects, and joining Denyse Schmidt's <a href="https://www.thenextstitch.com.au/blogs/news/announcing-the-proverbial-quilt-along" target="_blank">Proverbial Quilt Along</a>. I'm extending a challenge of my own. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmAecGWQEk4ST385kMmMIvgN2qucagCcvMIR6tOm-wDj96bvxss94IrBUJgZ7YrUE9fmFE4ejyAo78jZhGLuG9ZppJkArQaA3a2diU7tbO5TMeF9xRptso3MS6HJTiTeSnIAVSPUzOOo/s1600/scrap+bin-001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="799" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmAecGWQEk4ST385kMmMIvgN2qucagCcvMIR6tOm-wDj96bvxss94IrBUJgZ7YrUE9fmFE4ejyAo78jZhGLuG9ZppJkArQaA3a2diU7tbO5TMeF9xRptso3MS6HJTiTeSnIAVSPUzOOo/s320/scrap+bin-001.jpg" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Here's the challenge. <br />
Week 1:Fill a shoe box sized container with scraps. How you do this is up to you, random or a controlled pull. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy3Onys_NxJONk2nv57VuZdUHbQkRVDGlsM0dcrmpCRabKxX0fuEmEkr4y4WQXaDzZsDusIGT9Nlp8tFs8B8DvteDtSGt8RM-c9nbw-hkXKpjdzkt7N9gdYuiTyHHImtt2aG1GeaqlvEI/s1600/dream.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy3Onys_NxJONk2nv57VuZdUHbQkRVDGlsM0dcrmpCRabKxX0fuEmEkr4y4WQXaDzZsDusIGT9Nlp8tFs8B8DvteDtSGt8RM-c9nbw-hkXKpjdzkt7N9gdYuiTyHHImtt2aG1GeaqlvEI/s1600/dream.JPG" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Blue bin pull</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Then adding a background or not, stick with the bin and create a quilt from your pull. Here are two examples of times I have done this, one more traditional the other free form.<br />
Week 2: Create a plan for our quilt<br />
Weeks 3 and 4: Start cutting out and making blocks for your quilt<br />
Weeks 5 and 6: Finish making blocks and start assembling.<br />
Week 7: Finish assembling your quilt<br />
Week 8: Share your top! <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiry9bIFQPOtWC-Fz2engGs6ca_skdEPTGUvOp7mh-Ir5Xdx1Jer0wG1ctkdJxeMEkBE80c0j1s-yay9bkzvxpNh-1TePXKjDLKvnUNXMm17y8cI_NUE7OhjGGHtP7EmvMynujhWFwtXQ/s1600/Bear+Scraps+fall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1358" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiry9bIFQPOtWC-Fz2engGs6ca_skdEPTGUvOp7mh-Ir5Xdx1Jer0wG1ctkdJxeMEkBE80c0j1s-yay9bkzvxpNh-1TePXKjDLKvnUNXMm17y8cI_NUE7OhjGGHtP7EmvMynujhWFwtXQ/s320/Bear+Scraps+fall.jpg" width="271" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">cozy fabric pull</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It may surprise you what you can create. How big a quilt you can create with only a shoe box of scraps. And the fact that you may still have scraps leftover. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhukIm-u_ZTflpadX4eONFphp-NH-sGdzenHX3Rq8vFEsOOMa-ypCym-u88ViQyOP40OFvfuxu4_0ZKW8CY9At7UfwFX3RI9q0epLmhAylImdr2h4ckzH0New04C0wopwVEE-xrQuyGSM/s1600/20200330_101343%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhukIm-u_ZTflpadX4eONFphp-NH-sGdzenHX3Rq8vFEsOOMa-ypCym-u88ViQyOP40OFvfuxu4_0ZKW8CY9At7UfwFX3RI9q0epLmhAylImdr2h4ckzH0New04C0wopwVEE-xrQuyGSM/s320/20200330_101343%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is my current pull. I'm in need of a man quilt. I had a lot of strips I didn't want in my <a href="https://emsscrapbag.blogspot.com/2020/01/scrappy-spiderweb-tutorial_24.html" target="_blank">spiderweb quilt</a>. So I pulled the unwanted strips. I thought they would lend themselves well to my man quilt. Now to play and see where they take me. <br />
<br />
I'm also looking forward to seeing what you will come up with. Share on Instagram with #scrapbinpull or #scrapbinpullchallenge or on my Facebook group, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/2530043610411351/" target="_blank">Aunt Em's Scrap Bag Group</a>em's scrapbaghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02111534162397777000noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3264933645170736932.post-53616872438926258292020-03-30T06:00:00.000-06:002020-03-30T06:00:10.536-06:00Evolution Isn't it nice to know that snow will melt. This gives me so much hope for the future. Even as classes and trunk shows have been put on hold or cancelled. I'm planting seeds. Moving forward. Out of frustration with blogger not notifying me when you all comment. Thus making it hard for me to connect with you, and reply to your comments. I've tried unsuccessfully to remedy this. So I'm working on combining my blog and website. Watch for those changes to happen in the next few months. I'm hoping it will go seamlessly. I know that may be a lot to ask. I've handed it over to the professionals. Or I'd have no hope at all. <br />

This meme reminds me that all this change is normal. That it is how we grow and improve. Wishing you all the best as you figure out what your new normal is in these changing times. That you can find creative solutions to your challenges. Wish me luck as I figure out mine.</div>

You can create so many designs with it. I recently spent a couple of days playing with these cute little building blocks. I came up with 20 blocks. I know I could create more if I spent more time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Or if I broadened my horizons beyond a 16 patch block. Here are just a few of the blocks I came up with.<br />

I was recently listening to this <a href="https://thelifecoachschool.com/podcast/handling-chaos-6/" target="_blank">podcast by Brooke Castillo</a>. In fact her whole new series on handling chaos is great. But what stuck out to me was that when things get crazy if we will dig in and create we will be better able to cope. </div>

The half square triangle is one of my favorite units to play with. I recently created a video to show you my favorite method for making these little gems.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICWSBwEaiJNa1i9qtZB2wg8ViyhuRzpAQEgKTeURAf2LZ8SunuMgZ5pqd5OLfyiMVPXXdNySgRkcorb7nTepLUE2D-k71uYJtdBO-K6efBPxeTgnUaz-vpKWJFHh8sL44Sc1Cv0LSujw/s1600/20200317_162212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="800" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhICWSBwEaiJNa1i9qtZB2wg8ViyhuRzpAQEgKTeURAf2LZ8SunuMgZ5pqd5OLfyiMVPXXdNySgRkcorb7nTepLUE2D-k71uYJtdBO-K6efBPxeTgnUaz-vpKWJFHh8sL44Sc1Cv0LSujw/s320/20200317_162212.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
By playing with color placement you can create all kinds of designs. My <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/509559891/sunshine-on-a-cloudy-day-a-pdf-quilt?ref=shop_home_active_13&pro=1" target="_blank">Sunshine on a Cloudy Day</a> is a result of this kind of play.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKTBeRnzwvLif-gy-bywDsFGKCVivKXkCByY5pWMxI884cAPXjI6dFj_XyMBeP-bCA5F1wxR9xLl8oEwFrSjOqDWEWeV7wCsUh0wypnIZ18Nj768G7OPQOTy-h0daSkAfT7NFrrLDdjN8/s1600/20191216_131514.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1599" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKTBeRnzwvLif-gy-bywDsFGKCVivKXkCByY5pWMxI884cAPXjI6dFj_XyMBeP-bCA5F1wxR9xLl8oEwFrSjOqDWEWeV7wCsUh0wypnIZ18Nj768G7OPQOTy-h0daSkAfT7NFrrLDdjN8/s320/20191216_131514.jpg" width="319" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
By putting them on point and changing up sizes I came up with <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/526125013/mountain-retreat-pdf-quilt-pattern?ref=related-1" target="_blank">Mountain Retreat</a>. <br />

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you are feeling lucky on this holiday, despite the crazy that is going on in the world. I know it can seem scary with the caronavirus spreading and shelves in the stores empty but I find there is still so much to be grateful for. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

I just want to take some time to mention a few of the things I'm grateful for. One, I live in a great neighborhood. My neighbors look out for each other. As a fun, safe way to entertain the children while they are home from school one neighbor suggested we put up a shamrock in one of our windows for St. Patrick's day. That way the kids can get outside and do something fun while still keeping a safe distance. It was fun to walk this morning and see all the various shamrocks in windows. Gotta love my neighborhood!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm also grateful for good friends. Last week before most of this crazy happened I had left for a quilt retreat. We started to hear of all the toilet paper shortages, school closures and rising cases of the virus while we were there. Nikki came up with this solution for the toilet paper shortage. I don't think I would use my pretty fabric. But it could be a good way to get rid of that ugly fabric lurking in your stash.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm very thankful for the many lessons that quilting has taught me. The one that comes to mind at this time is that there is an abundance in this world and I will have enough. I pulled scraps from that overflowing bin for two days at my retreat. I have a pretty stack of blocks to show for my efforts. Yet that bin is still overflowing. It's like the measure of meal the widow, associate with Elijah in the bible. Because she was willing to share she had enough and it lasted through the famine in the land. I truly believe that as we share what we have with others that we will have enough. That while times may be hard we can get through them together.<br />

Some people go on field trips with children. I used to do that an always had a lot of fun. My children have grown and flew the nest. But field trips still sound fun. So I now take my quilts. We've been to Bryce, Lagoon Trail and Muller Park. This time I gathered this pretty pile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfDQAVL7-LFCqJZOW2LE-y7oQkvUObwT5pL3sMkVyKvgZZ8Li6eOWCRQrYeXZ4rElyIWb3zxaFYMYaiymi11_NAlotAU0F1KkcUWhF4nlGUiRRu8JH15PiBkaTA5-PeNAeFpAbOg4fAFs/s1600/20200306_154938%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1203" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfDQAVL7-LFCqJZOW2LE-y7oQkvUObwT5pL3sMkVyKvgZZ8Li6eOWCRQrYeXZ4rElyIWb3zxaFYMYaiymi11_NAlotAU0F1KkcUWhF4nlGUiRRu8JH15PiBkaTA5-PeNAeFpAbOg4fAFs/s320/20200306_154938%255B1%255D.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
And we headed to the city, Salt Lake City that is. What's a field trip without a school bus? Remembering to stick together and not lose your partner. <br />

Thank you to my sister, Becky, for all the great pictures. If you are looking for a <a href="https://www.ravenbergphotography.com/" target="_blank">great wedding photographer</a> she's your girl. She felt she needed to pay me for watching her kids while she shot a wedding in Hawaii. I just thought I was having a fun week with her kids. But I'm not going to say no to a fun photo shoot. Watch for more of our adventure. <div>

For a 47" x 52" quilt you will need 85 charm squares. This quilt is perfect for a beginning quilter. I use it when I'm teaching youth. I have made it a couple of times with the 12 year old girls at my church. It turns out perfectly for them. There are no seams to match up. So it is very forgiving.<br />

I needed a quilt Quilty Hug for a man. So I used 126 squares, a combination of a charm pack I had and leftovers I found in my pre-cut scrap bin. I still need to find border fabric.<br />

It's March and soon it will be the official beginning of spring. YEA! St. Patrick's Day is also coming up. And as luck would have it I know a leprechaun. At least I call him a leprechaun. My brother was born on St. Patrick's Day, with red hair. If that doesn't make you a leprechaun I don't know what does?</div>
