Moda Bake Shop At the Sea Shore Finish

It was such an honor to sew along with some pretty great designers.  I'm thrilled with the results!  This quilt just makes me happy!  I love Tula Pink's vivid fabric.  So glad I had enough leftover from the Stitchin' Showdown.  They sure brought this quilt to life.
I had to do a little hunting to find the sashing fabric.  I only had a part of a jelly roll strip of that.  I took it to several local shops but had no luck locating it.  I finally found it on line at The Fat Quarter Shop.  Because I was ordering on line and not sure I was picking the right color.  I bought two different Tula Pink solids knowing one of them would work and the other would find a home sometime in my sewing.
I took my flimsy on a little field trip, to the nearest body of water for a little photo shoot.  I found two cooperative young men to hold it up for me for a straight on shot.  They opted not to be in the picture.  Even though I told them they could be famous.  :)

Moving it Forward

As I mentioned in my last post Simple Stitches donates a lot of scraps for Quilty Hugs.  This sweet little butterfly quilt was made from those scraps.  I used my Accuquilt Go Cutter to cut out all those triangles.  I love this method of getting pretty scraps made into usable pieces.  Find my method of cutting scraps on the Go here.
I quilted flowers for these butterflies to fly among.  Then found this great fuchsia fabric to bind it with.
With this Quilty Hug nearing completion I pulled out my scrap bins again and got another project started.  Golds, blues, browns, and greens with a pretty poppy for the background.  It matches my toes and shoes so nicely.

Trunk Shows, Workshops and More

One of the great things about working with the talented designers on Moda Bake Shop has been their experience and mentoring.  Thanks to Susan Vaughn, of The Felted Pear, I now have a page that features my trunk shows and workshops.  It's a work in progress so check back often.
I've learned so much from these generous and gifted ladies.  I'm so grateful for the knowledge they have bestowed on me.  I hope I can be as giving with my talents as they are with theirs.  One of the ways I try to give back is a free pattern each week in my newsletter.  Don't miss out on these little gems.  Find the sign up near the top of the right side bar.
This week's free newsletter pattern.
Now I create a lot of scraps but I also receive quite a few from generous quilters wanting to help my my Quilty Hugs.  One of those very generous scrap donors is Simple Stitches Fabric Shop.  In addition to their online shop they have a local sewing school.
Thanks to their generous scrap donation a whole lot of Quilty Hugs are made.  In fact the majority of the ones I put together for our monthly sew in come from their beautiful scraps.  Thank you Simple Stitches for your generosity.

Moving It Forward

I've finished all my Moda Bake Shop At the Seashore blocks.  I had a ton of fun making them.  I had to wait to put them together until the fabric I ordered for the sashing came.
I had to get these cute charm packs too.  Because it is so much more fun to pay for fabric than shipping.  These cuties got me to the free shipping level.
This weekend I started assembling my blocks.  Here is a section of my quilt.  The closer this gets to done the more I love it!
I would have shown you more but it's on the family room floor and I can't get good pictures there.  My 100 blocks in 100 days is on the design wall. I'm keeping it there because it allows me to see what colors I need to add to even everything out and keep a balance of color.  Here are a couple of the latest blocks.  After taking this picture I noticed I need to paint my toes again.  They are looking a little shabby.
Now I want to see what you're up to.  Link up and share your progress.  Let us cheer you on!

Sneak Peek and a Little Joy

I can't really show you what became of the fat quarter pack I showed a little while back.  But here is a sneak peek.  She is a top.  I'm hoping to get her quilted in the next week.
Though I can't show you what I'm up to.  I can show you some pretty awesome quilts that other's have made using my patterns.  Here is Lee's Enchanted Forest quilt.   Didn't she do a fabulous job!  I love the beautiful blue background.  It really lets those scrappy trees and birds shine.
Next Zona finished her Dahlia quilt.  I love all the bright happy fabrics she chose.  Zona is a new quilter and did a fabulous job!  Can't wait to see how she grows and develops as a quilter.
Did you know that I've created a new student gallery on my website?  I love seeing all the quilts that are created from my patterns.  So I thought it would be fun to show off quilters work and see how they took my patterns and made them their own.  Take a minute to check it out.  If you've made one of my patterns and would be willing send me a picture and I'll include it there.

Moving it Forward

I've joined the parade of quilts by Cynthia Muir aka ahhquilting on Instagram.  For the month of August she has chosen a certain type of quilt to parade each day.  This is the quilt I paraded for smallest quilt. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook to see what else I paraded.  It's been fun to see what everyone else is parading follow #paradeofquilts2019 to join the fun.
I'm still keeping up with my 100 blocks in 100 days.  Here are the first 40.  My layout keeps changing as I add more blocks.
I'm waiting on my sashing fabric for my At the Seashore sew along with Moda.  I wish it would get her faster.  I'm so excited for this quilt!

Sharing a Little Love

I've combined my made fabric words and hearts.  I switched the centers on my Dresdens.  The black was just too much.  So a soft white with pink hearts took it's place.  Oh, so much better!   I had to split the word another to make the quilt a decent size.  Otherwise it would have be very fat and not so tall.
I'm pretty pleased with all the changes.  I think it will make a nice sample for my 'Spells' class this September at the Utah Quilt Guild's annual Quilt Fest.  I still have a few openings if you want to come.  In addition to my class there are lots of other great classes, a quilt show, lectures and trunk shows by some pretty great quilters.  Can't come to me?  I'd love to come visit you. Let me share my love of scrap quilting, free form improvisation quilting and more. Contact me for details.

Moving it Forward

I had leftover made fabric (find my tutorial for this here) from my Love One Another word play.  So I made me some wonky hearts.  More on these later in the week.
I'm continuing on with my 100 blocks in 100 days.  Here is block 34.  Love how it looks against the foliage of my garden.  My garden is keeping me busy.  In addition to finding uses for my zucchini. I've been making pesto with my basil and oregano.  Plus enjoying cucumbers and cherry tomatoes in my salads.  I even have a couple of tomatoes that are almost ready.  Really excited for those!
I also got this fun fat quarter bundle of Scarlet and Sage by Fig Tree & Co.  I have some pretty exciting plans for it. I can barley wait to dive in.
Now I want to see what you're up to.  Link up and share the progress you are making in your sewing room.

A Little More Word Play

I'm so excited for my Spells class at Utah Quilt Guild's Annual Meeting.  I may be having way too much fun making samples for this class.  Do you remember the wonky snowmen I showed awhile back?  Well three of them have found a home in this fun door hanging.
Adding the 'Let it Snow'  It's easy to want snow in August.  I know most people don't feel that way in January.  I may be the exception.  I love winter!  Now I'm ready, not only for my class, but for the snow to fly this winter.

Find instructions for this block in the newsletter today.  Along with a quilt setting.  Haven't signed up for the newsletter?  Oh no!  Don't miss out on all the free bonus patterns!
