I think you did the right thing by not cutting out the entire quilt when you started having other thoughts about your quilt. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably finish sewing up what I had cut out, put it on the wall and then let it sit for a day or two while you consider--what you have, what you first wanted to do and now what is niggling at your mind about doing something different.
