Auditions

I thought for sure I'd be sharing finished tops from our Quilty Hug sew in yesterday. And while three tops have all their blocks, sashing and rows complete, we didn't quite get the rows and sashing all sewn together to complete the tops. I would promise you next month, but because I will be heading out to teach at Bryce, you'll have to wait until March.  But I promise it will be worth it.

After the sew in, and a little cleaning, there tends to be a need to sweep after a sew in, lots of little bits and thread. I pulled out my yarn bomb trees. I have three more I need to make. But I wanted to audition sashing. I thought this dotty orange and black might be fun. But I don't think there is enough of it. And I'm not sure I can get more. It is from Moda's Oh Boo from a few years back.
Mary thought a red might be nice. I had this in my stash. What do you think?
Next I tried Kona solid sky. I really liked this one. What are your thoughts?
Finally I tried a more cheery blue. I also like this one.
I think I will put scrappy corner stones with whatever I choose. I'll finish up my blocks and then decide. Would love your input. Thanks!

  1. Oh my choice would be the "sky" blue one--I think the blocks take center stage with this surrounding them...hugs Julierose

  3. I like the cheery blue, but that red is interesting too.

  4. That's a cute idea. I should do that since I knit too. I have also helped bomb trees before.

  5. I really like the red. Those are great blocks.

  6. I really like Oh Boo, the others not so much. Both the orange and black colors and the polka dots seem to enhance the trees; maybe another dotty fabric?

  7. Great Yarn bomb trees. I like the cheery blue best, the trees pop for me. The red sashing demands more attention and the trees become "background".

  8. I would try a chartreuse or deep orange yellow sashing.

  9. Go with the red! It really makes those blocks pop! (lynnstck[at]yahoo.com)

  11. Oh,what fun blocks! I like the solid sky best because it blends in and doesn't look so much like obvious sashing.

  12. I liked the cheerfulness/playfulness of the first dots, just not the color. The dots seem to reference the little prints and circles. No to the red - kinda flat. Chartruese or brilliant turquoise, but definitely something playful or ridiculous! Blues are too ordinary for such fun blocks.

  13. I vote for something bright and fun (the blues and even the red seem flat in the online view). Orange? Lime/Acid green? Hope you'll share additional options - the trees are just too much fun.

  14. I would vote for something that doesn't compete with the trees. The yarn bombs should stand out in all their glory. Either the black or a light neutral. What about a taupe?

  15. Love the serene look of the solid sky but that cheery blue makes the trees really pop! You're on to something with these.:)

  16. I think the red made the trees stand out. Your quilt, you choose!

  18. Cheery blue. Or a turquoise.
I agree with the others who said the red was flat.
And the sky blue is invisible.
    Love the trees.
