Winter Trees

I finished my winter trees just in time to get it photographed before another winter storm arrives.  I'm thrilled with how it turned out and think it looks lovely in this winter setting.  I'm not even in the least bit sad that more snow is on it's way.  I love that too!  Winter is my favorite season.
It took me a minute to decide how I was going to quilt it.  I was leaning toward doing wood grain but had to look through my continuous line board on pinterest just to make sure that was what I wanted.  When I saw this combination of organic lines and leaves I knew I had found a winner.  I feel the wavy lines has the wood grain feel and I just loved the thought of leaves in my winter forest.  I know that makes little to no sense, since there are no leaves on winter trees. But it is what I wanted and if you can get what you want why not do it?
If your interested in the process you can find it here. I used a fat eighth pack of Black Tie Affair by Basic Grey for Moda. Linking up with Sarah, Lizzy, and Amanda Jean to celebrate my first finish in 2016.

  3. You are so spot on with the quilting choice. It's like the last of those leaves that float around in a winter wind. Beautiful piece and great start to the new year!

  9. Great winter photo of a great winter quilt! The leaves in the quilting must be the "Spirit Leaves" that have already passed on but are warmly remembered.

  18. Lovely quilt Em, and I am seriously envious at the sight of your snow - no proper winter here, just rain and mud.

  19. I think the leaves in the quilting is like the spirit of the leaves, or the memory of leaves. That is what remains in the winter. Beautiful.
