Back to the Real World

After a week of sun
and sand with my family.
It's time to come back to reality
and finish up this quilt for Josh.
Just one more border to go.  If I'm luck I may get one more finish in this year.

Moving it Forward

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  With all the celebrating I know you may be like me and not had a lot of time for creating. I apologize for last weeks mix up with the link up. Hopefully I've figured that all out now.  As far as moving things forward I was able to find a setting for my Winter trees and sew them together.
I'm still working on quilting Josh's quilt.  It has reminded me why I don't usually do bed size quilts.  I'm no the last border and feel like a marathon runner who has hit their wall. Somehow I've just got to push through it. (Just keep sewing, just keep sewing :)

Now it's your turn.  Were you able to finish all your sewing gifts finished? Did you find to do something creative and fun?  We'd love to see it.  Share with us your progress.

Winter Trees

I recently received this lovely fat eighth bundle of Black Tie Affair by Basic Grey for Moda.
Inspired by Amanda Jean's Bright Birch Trees and the trees in my yard I cut squares from the black fabrics.  Next I randomly cut tree shapes into them.
Using the light grays and creams I cut 1"- 2" strips and inserted them in my cuts
to create branches
and trunks.
Before I knew it I had a whole forest.
Now to figure out a setting.

Moving It Forward

Christmas is this Friday, and while I have made progress on Josh's quilt, I'm not quite sure it will be finished on time.  I meant to baste it a couple of weeks ago, but my sister needed me to watch her kidos on the day I had arranged to baste it.  So I'm a little behind.  I've got the star quilted using a hook and swirl pattern.  I found the tutorial for it here.
Next I moved things a little farther by doing a feather around the star border.
I'm about 3/4 of the way around the rays coming out from the star.  Here I did vines and leaves.
Now that you've seen what I've moved forward it's your turn.

Garden in Winter

Monday we received 18" of snow.  Isn't it pretty?
But not so fun to travel in so I spent time in my sewing room finishing up my garden quilt.  Poor Spike the snow is deeper than he is tall.  Hubby had to shovel a path for him in the backyard.  Which also made a great place to take a picture, although Anna had a hard time holding it up above the snow.
But the biggest celebration this week, better than the quilt and snow is a new fridge.  We knew ours was on it's last leg and had purchased one on Cyber Monday.  I scheduled the soonest delivery date and hoped the fridge would last.  Sadly it died the next day and we have been two weeks without a fridge.  Fortunately the cool temperatures have worked to our advantage.  But we were thrilled yesterday morning when our new fridge arrived.

Today is a Special Day

Today is a special day.  Not only is it this special ladies 96th birthday.  Yes, we feel blessed to have her with us.  She is AMAZING!!!  Happy Birthday Grandma!
It is also the 26th anniversary of my marriage to this handsome man.  Couldn't ask for a hubby and friend.  He puts up with all my crazy so well.
And I'm pretty good at returning the favor. :)

Moving It Forward

Welcome back to Moving it Forward Monday.  Hope you've had a productive week and are ready to share your progress.
For me, I was able to cut out a new project that I need to have done by the first of February.
An in my various other sewing I was able to get all the tabs sewn on my four patches as I move to the next step in my leaders and enders quilt.
Now it's your turn.  What did you move forward this week?

To The Nines

When I first saw Dapper by Luke for Moda I knew it was a perfect fit for a man quilt.  And since that has been a focus of mine recently.  Well at least since Josh brought it to my attention that his brothers had taken all the man quilts when they moved out. And he didn't want to snuggle under my usually bright and not so masculine quilts.
Dapper's wovens made for a fun palette to play with.  I really like the plaids and stripes and the texture of the wovens is very soft and snuggly.
While I'm not a great free motion quilter I did have fun playing with geometric shapes in the quilting.

Sarah tested the pattern for me.  She did a beautiful job and I'm thankful for her help.
I'll be linking up with her and Amanda Jean to celebrate this fine finish.

Leaders and Enders

You may remember that odd day a while back when I got in the mood to cut.  Weird I know.  Well from that crazed moment I started a leaders and enders project. These little guys have been the result. Looks like I will be making another Free Four All quilt and I've got the first step done.
Josh's quilt has been good at moving this project along.  I send a leader through each time I started a row, or each time I fed through each set of geese.
And I had two different kinds of geese.
Now to arrange these into rows. Not to much longer and his quilt will be big enough to cover his bed. He is looking forward to it and made me feel good when he told me he was grateful I was a doer.  I think as a member of the millennial generation he knows what a distraction you tube and social media can be.  I always know when he is studying for a test or has a project for school.  His phone will be on the pool table.  He told me he has to do it or he gets distracted. With finals next week his phone is spending a lot of time on the pool table.

Introducing Moving it Forward Monday

If you've followed my blog long you know I'm a compulsive list maker.
I make grocery lists, to do lists and list to mark my quilting progress.
Because I know how fun it is to check those listed items off I thought it would also be fun to share our progress here.  So whether you have finished cutting out a pattern that has been on your bucket list.
Sewed those pieces into parts.
 Made those parts into blocks,
or sewn those blocks into rows
Let's celebrate by having a little linky party.  You can grab my button

Winter Wonderland

A few years back I really got into raw edge applique.  I had had so much fun creating this pattern that I couldn't stop. I made these little people in all kinds of activities through the year.  I made wall hangings and I started this table runner.  Then I ran out of steam.  It sat as a UFO in my sewing room waiting patiently for me to do something with it.

At a recent retreat with friends, my friend, Sue was making a bunch of table runners and that got me thinking about this one.  It was almost finished so most of the work was done.
I didn't have a winter table runner and this one would last through the season.  So I pulled it out, sandwiched it and had fun quilting swirls and snowflakes into it.
Then I found a nice blue on blue in my stash for the binding.
Anna had the boys haul in the Christmas decorations Sunday so we could decorate.  I pulled out my Christmas quilts yesterday and added my new table runner to the decor.
Let the festivities begin.
Linking up with Sarah and Amanda Jean to celebrate.
