It Adds Up

Needed a little mindless sewing with my scraps.  I've also been wanting to make a plus quilt.  So I combined the two and came up with these.
I started with a 5" square of background fabric.
Made a wonky cut down the middle
Sewed a bunch of scrappy strips 1"-1 1/2" in width together until they were 6"-8" wide.
Cut those into 2" wide strips
Sewed them between my background fabrics.
Make another wonky cut going the other way
 Insert another string piece
 And sew into place.
Square up either by finding smallest block and cutting rest down.  Or by adding strips of background fabric around your block and squaring up to desired size.  I'm not quite sure where this project is going yet.  So I haven't squared my blocks up yet.

  3. Good idea. I think it would look good with a black background too.
