Value Matters

I know value is very important in quilting.  Especially in a scrap quilt.  Somehow I lost sight of that in this last project for Quiltmaker Scrap Squad.
I was thrilled with my blocks at this point.
I thought the black with the bits of white would be fun.
but when I put them together they all kind of moshed together.  I would have ripped them out, but time was an issue.
So I added solid black strips which I think helped.
I added a scrappy border, which I love!
So although it is not my favorite quilt it has some redeeming qualities.  And will work as a teaching tool on the importance of value.

  1. No, it is just perfect, the black stripes bring out the color. See tastes are different. I thing it is very nice.
Adding the scrappy border fits perfectly,

  2. LOVE your second last sentence!

Then there always is the famous, "It is what it is!" It's a great quilt and serves a purpose which really is to keep someone warm. 8-))

  3. We're not always making masterpieces. You are right that it's a good teaching tool... but still a fun quilt... lots of scrappy pieces.

  4. Awhile ago I made a lovely quilt with black and white fabric as sashing between bright scrappy blocks. In photos the black and white sort of greyed out like it has in yours but in person I thought it looked fine.

  5. Now see, I love this quilt--I don't see a value problem, but then that's just me. I do like the B/W borders too...hugs, Julierose
